An international whisky company that tours the world looking for the best whisky makers in all corners of the globe. Boutique-y purchase casks they think are great direct from the distillery and return them to their global headquarters in London. There they edit, bottle and label the whisky and present it the world over in their own unique way.
Luckily for us they had heard about the whisky coming out of Launceston Distillery and approached us about acquiring some casks back in 2021. Upon sampling they pounced straight away and acquired whisky, some of which they wanted for the Return to Oz series.
๐ฆ๐ผ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ? A beautiful five year old single bourbon cask. fully matured in Hangar 17. Rich, sweet and exactly what they were looking for. A nicely balanced dram that was so good they decided to bottle it at NCS (natural cask strength).They decided not to add water to the whisky even though we sent plenty of Tasmanian water with it. They decided it was too good to water down! Only 187 bottles at 62.6% ABV.
๐ฆ๐ผ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐น๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐น? That Boutique-y Whisky Company whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels hand-illustrated by Emily Chappell and inspired in some way by the liquid, the distillery or the people who make it happen. For our release they of course wanted Angus, our wee distillery West Highland Terrier. On this label he is interviewing a Tasmanian devil for the role of a security guard at Hangar 17 and he is ready with his list of hard-hitting interview questions at the ready. In the background is map of Tasmania and a rather dubious portrait of his favourite sportsman and Launceston hero, Ricky Ponting playing football in his junior years (๐๐ ๐๐ฝ๐พ๐๐?!).
Our bottling along with the others in the Return to Oz series will be launching in the UK today and in Australia in the coming months.
